Willis J. Southard eschewed mass produced, machine-made mattresses. We embrace WJ’s philosophies today of hand crafting mattresses. And, it’s also inspiration for our hand tufted innerspring mattress made with organic cotton and a blend of organic and pure wool. No bells and whistles here. Because last we checked, who could get any quality sleep with bells and whistles?

Hand-tufted, two-sided mattress.
Best supported by our wood slat foundation, but it may be placed on a platform bed, as long as the bed provides ample support. Make sure you review our warranty and product care so that it is properly supported.

Why one firmness? Simplicity. When your grandmother bought her mattress from us, we only offered one. Do we really need to make it more confusing?

Well… Actually, a mattress can assist you in feeling better by helping you sleep better, but it is not a panacea. There are other factors that are beyond a mattress’s control. Your sleep environment. Eating habits. Exercise. Which affect how you sleep and your body feels when it wakes up.
Wait, shouldn’t we over promise in hopes that you buy one of our mattresses and then tell you about it after the fact? You get stuck with the mattress and we make more money.
Better Living without Chemistry.
Have you ever taken a look at the ingredients on cereal you loved as a kid? Can you even pronounce them? It’s a wonder that we turned out ok. Well, look at the ingredients from some mattresses… Antimony. Styrene. Butadiene. Toluene Di-isocyante (TDI). Is it going to kill you? We don’t know, but would rather not risk it. So, we only use materials from nature that you can pronounce.
Tempature
When you sleep, your body rejuvenates by perspiring. (Ok, you sweat.) It’s your body’s natural way of detoxifying. Wool wicks away the body’s moisture keeping you dry throughout the night, allowing you to sleep at an even temperature regardless of season. Your body is able to breathe in a clean, restorative environment that feels just right. How refreshing?
There’s a lot you can find out about a person through his or her handshake. A handshake that’s too firm telegraphs that a person feels threatened. Too weak translates into the shaker’s insecurity. And then there are those perfect handshakes, where the shaker makes eye contact, smiles, and cups your hand with the type of gentle support that says Hello friend, I respect you. I support you. Our wood slat foundation demonstrates the same kind of confidence. It supports your mattress and you with a sincere firmness that you can feel every time you slip into bed.

Other things to consider… or maybe a way to get you to spend more money.
Use protection… (mattress protection for those with a dirty mind.)
Mattresses get dirty. And, you sweat up to a pint a night. A mattress protector allows you to wash your sleep surface keeping your bed clean and reducing allergens.
Additional comfort.
It is easier to make a mattress softer than it is harder. Add a pillow top to your mattress for an additional layer of comfort. Don’t like ours. Try out some others…

It can be just as important as a mattress in helping you sleep better. Unfortunately, we only know the ancient art of mattress making. So, try out these companies…

Frames
Our mattresses are heavy and need extra support. A lot slats for bed frames don’t provide enough. So, we recommend checking out the Bedbridge™, the Bedbeam™, or the Lazarbeam™ from Knickerbocker. And, don’t worry we gain nothing by you buying one expect making sure your mattress lasts and doesn’t sag.
